Madawaska Valley Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services focuses solely on the gift of in-home euthanasia, in-home hospice/palliative care, in-home pain management and in-home hospice-supported natural death. This allows pets to be surrounded by their loving families during the final stages of their life journeys. Dr. Chris Hickman (she/her) is a 1988 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College with a deep respect and awe for the love shared between people and their beloved furry family members. This led to the opening of her mobile veterinary hospice service so that she can provide in-home end-of-life care in an intimate home setting. All beloved pets deserve the right kind of care for the best end of life. In April 2024, Dr. Chris was priviledged to open The Comfort Room in Pembroke, ON. The comfort room is an alternative to in-home or veterinary clinic euthanasia. The comfort room provides a safe and calming environment for your pet's final moments. This private room allows pet parents to take their time in processing the event as well as giving other pets in the household the opportunity to be present and understand the passing of their companion. This helps promote a smoother transition for the entire household, as they grieve and adjust to life without their furry friend.
Dr Chris is here to provide this service and help pet-parents cope with the loss of a treasured family member. In 2018, Dr. Chris became one of the first veterinarians in the world to attain the designation of a Certified Hospice/Palliative Care Veterinarinan (CHPV).

Please note: To help meet the high need for veterinary care in the Ottawa Valley, I have decided to offer routine vaccinations and deworming as well as first vaccinations and deworming to litters of puppies and kittens.
